Bryan’s Bogey Free 75 Gets The Win!!!

Well it was great weekend for the July monthly and as a result we had some very good scores. Bryan posted a “Bogey Free” 73. With his add 2 handicap he ended up with a 75. That was good enough to edge out Steve Michaelis by 1 shot who shot an 80 with a sub 4, for a score of 76. Hal ended up with a 76 and an add 1 to post a 77 followed by Doug who posted a round of 90 with a sub 12 for a score of 78. Great Job Doug, I think that handicap is going to be falling again. Rounding out the top 5 was Del with score of 79. We had a new participant this weekend named Zack Dansker. Zack played great topped off by putting his tee shot on long 7 to within 24 inches of the basket to win a disc out of the John Kimball disc stash.

I will be updating the championship points and handicaps this week and we will be staying up to date on those going forward in a much more timely manner. Great day today and I hope to see some of you on the course between now and the next monthly.

Handicaps and Club Championship Points are Posted!

That’s right. I have posted the current handicaps and 2010 Club Championship points. You will notice that the format has changed due to the time needed to edit data under that old format. The current Club Championship page will only show the total for the year to date. A copy of the complete point record for the year is available at every monthly tournament.

The other big news is, Austin’s crushing tournament record has resulted in a huge drop in his handicap. Austin, who started the year with a SUB 7 handicap, has now made a dramatic drop to a SUB 3. Congratulations Austin! Your handicap shows that you are one of our clubs better players…but now the task of winning has become even more of a battle. Best of luck as you compete at this even more challenging level.

Change to Handicapping Calculations

For 2010 there will be one simple change to the handicapping system that we use for the monthly tournaments. In the past we have considered every round that you have played when calculating your handicap (see note below). Beginning with the January 2010 tournament, your handicap will be based on only the last 12 qualifying rounds you have played. This means that for everyone that has 12 rounds or more, your oldest rounds will not be considered; only the most recent 12 rounds that you have played. The formula will otherwise remain unchanged. This means that, since the worse half of your scores are dropped from the calculation, no more than six rounds will be used to determine your tournament handicap.

The reason for the change is to ensure that handicaps reflect how a player is playing recently (past year or so) and not how they have played over several years. This will help even out situations such as a player who has greatly improved while playing with the club or a player who has significantly declined in their skills (hey, some of us are getting older).

As we are gathering quite a lengthy history of tournament scores for several players, the need to cap the total scores used has become more of an issue. Most of you will see no change to your handicap for the January tournament based on this change. Those who do see a change will only be affected by one stroke, maybe two. If you have any questions about this change, please speak with me on Saturday.

NOTE: This does not mean that every round is used in the formula, since the worse half of your scores are not used to calculate the handicap.

Club Sweatshirts and Hoodies

I have priced the cost of ordering sweatshirts and hoodies for the club. These would be gray with the same screen printing as the club t-shirts. The cost to you would be $13 for a sweatshirt with $2-3 more for XX and XXX Large. The hoodies are $5 more for the same sizes. This cost is only if we order 36. If we order less, the cost increases by more than $3 per garment. Although the club does not yet have the funds to cover the full order, I would be willing to purchase the shirts and get reimbursed by the club after enough were sold.

So, should I order these sweatshirts? And, do any of you want the hoodies? Please reply soon so I can get the order in before our next monthly. Post your comments now.

Trophy Delays

I just got news that our 2010 trophies will not be ready for our tournament on Saturday. Therefore, the awards for 2010 will take place at our January monthly tournament. So sorry for the change in plans.

Bryan Wins June Monthly in Throw-Off

Bryan Becker finished top in a field of seven this past weekends monthly by winning the CTP* throw-off with Hal Horn. Both finished with a one-over-par 82, after handicaps; but in the end, Bryan’s six feet from the basket toss was enough to take first place. Rob, Marie and Jim finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

It was a challenging day with frequent winds interrupting many decent throws. Players also used the new long tee locations for holes 4, 5, 8 and 9. It seems that everyone liked having these longer holes added to the round.

Handicaps and Championship Standings have been updated. Also, check out the new club page showing the current ace pool values and the club account balance.

John Kimball Wins Monthly with Lowest 27-Hole Round Yet!

John Kimball shot an 8-under 73 today in perfect conditions to win first place in the Chainrackers monthly tournament. John’s round of 73 breaks the previous low-round record of 74 held in tandem by both John and Bryan Becker.

Due to a handicapping error, it was thought that Steven Kehret had placed second (sorry Steven), but with a correct handicap of SUB 2, Steven actually finished in fourth place. This means that Dan Sissom finished second and Rob Hamilton finished third. Payout corrections will be made at the next monthly tournament. A field of eleven players started the tournament with nearly everyone shooting a better than average round.

Club T-shirt Ordering Deadline Extended
